Houston’s WindSync Launches 8th Season with Two New Members
Innovative wind quintet to kick-off season with debut performance at Miller Outdoor Theater
Houston, TX - Internationally recognized wind quintet, WindSync, begins its 8th season joined by two new members: Kara LaMoure, bassoon, and Julian Hernandez, clarinet. The season’s kick-off concert will be on September 2, 2016 at 8:00 PM with WindSync’s debut performance at Miller Outdoor Theater. The ensemble will perform “Something About A Rose,” which premiered at the Hobby Center’s Zilkha Hall in February 2016. The program showcases music inspired by Shakespeare and includes two dance collaborations featuring guest artists, Vitacca Dance Project and the HSPVA Dance Department.
WindSync, represented by Laura Dunaway at United Talent Agency (NYC), looks forward to a dynamic season in Houston, as well as internationally. Special recognition is due to former members, Jack Marquardt and Tracy Jacobson, for their years of passion and dedication to the ensemble. Jack Marquardt will enter the classroom this fall teaching first grade as a Teach For America Fellow and Tracy Jacobson will attend New York University’s Stern School of Business.
Highlights of WindSync’s upcoming 2016-17 season include the Texas premiere of the ensemble’s new concerto, The Cosmos, for wind quintet and orchestra composed by Michael Gilbertson with the River Oaks Chamber Orchestra in November 2016. Additionally, they will perform a three-part concert series at Zilkha Hall as a new addition to the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts’ Uniquely Houston initiative. The series is funded in part by the Houston Arts Alliance Arts and subscription packages will be available for purchase. WindSync will further deliver on its mission this season through special educational outreach performances at Texas Children’s Cancer Center, Houston Methodist Hospital, and local schools. The group will also partner with Music for Autism to present concerts specifically designed for community members with children or family on the autistic spectrum.
“This season we are looking forward to a reimagined WindSync with our exciting new members, and to presenting creative, collaborative performances in Houston that continue to push the boundaries of classical music.” - Anni Hochhalter, French horn player and Executive Director
